Gachiakuta anime has received a massive endorsement from Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini, who has singled it out as his most anticipated series of the Summer 2025 season.

In a recent interview, Purini hailed Gachiakuta as the “biggest anime show in Japan,” setting towering expectations for the action-fantasy series.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about Crunchyroll’s summer slate, Purini expressed his personal enthusiasm for the Kodansha-partnered project.

“The biggest anime show in Japan, Gachiakuta, which we are featuring here, is a show that I’m really excited about,” Purini stated. “It is from our partners at [Japanese publisher] Kodansha, and it is one of those shows where, if you watch the trailer, you’re hooked.”

He presented the series as a prime example of the “breadth and depth” of content that defines what he calls one of Crunchyroll’s “biggest seasons ever.”

Crunchyroll is backing its president’s high praise with a significant global promotional campaign, giving the series a prominent spotlight on the world stage.

The marketing blitz includes a special “World Takeover” website and global premiere events. A major stop in this world tour was a panel at this year’s Anime Expo in Los Angeles, where the manga’s creator Kei Urana and graffiti artist Hideyoshi Andou made a special appearance.

Additionally, Crunchyroll is also providing a same-day English dub for fans in the United States and Canada, ensuring Western audiences can experience the premiere alongside Japan.

Gachiakuta manga has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine since February 2022.

The story follows Rudo, an orphan living in the slums of a floating city simply known as the Sphere where the wealthy elite dispose of their trash—and unwanted people—into the abyss they call “The Pit.” After he is falsely accused of murdering his foster father, Rudo is forced to take the fall. As he vows revenge on those who did wrong by him, Rudo discovers a new world and people who will guide him on his quest.

The anime is being adapted by Bones Film, with Fumihiko Suganuma helming the series. Key staff members include Hiroshi Seko (Attack on Titan Final Season, Jujutsu Kaisen) as the writer for the series composition, Satoshi Ishino (Date A Live) as the character designer and chief animation director, and Taku Iwasaki (Bungo Stray Dogs) as the composer.

The anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
